Where ocasa began
OCASA was born from one of my favorite moments of the day—the quiet hours around sunset.
The name was inspired by the Spanish word ocaso, meaning sunset: that moment when the desert begins to cool, the light turns golden, and everything seems to slow down.
It became a reminder of how I wanted skincare to feel. Not another rushed step in a complicated routine, but a small ritual that gives you a reason to pause.
As I spent more time in the American West, however, I realized it wasn't only the sunsets that inspired me.
It was the landscape itself.
The desert is dry, windblown, exposed, and constantly changing—yet life here finds extraordinary ways to endure. Plants grow deeper roots, conserve precious moisture, and bloom despite conditions that seem almost impossible.
That resilience changed the way I thought about skincare.
Instead of asking what ingredients were trending, I began asking a different question:
What can the plants that have already learned to thrive here teach us?
That question continues to shape OCASA today.
Formulated for life in dry climates
Living between the dry landscapes of the West taught me how differently skin behaves when it's constantly exposed to low humidity, wind, intense summers, and cold, dry winters.
That's why OCASA looks to resilient botanicals for inspiration.
From Arizona-grown jojoba to prickly pear, lavender, and the native desert plants I'm continuing to study, I'm drawn to ingredients that come from landscapes where adaptation isn't optional.
I don't believe that a plant's ability to survive the desert automatically translates into the same effect on our skin. But I do believe the desert is one of nature's greatest teachers—and its remarkable plants continue to inspire the ingredients and formulas I create.
Crafted for dry climates. Loved everywhere.
How every formula begins
Beautiful skincare begins long before anything reaches a jar.
It begins with the farms we source from, the herbs we choose, and the patience to let traditional methods take their time.
Every OCASA skincare formula is created in small batches using thoughtfully sourced ingredients and a process that remains intentionally hands-on.
Some things simply aren't meant to be rushed.
Every ingredient has a story
We believe knowing where an ingredient comes from matters just as much as knowing its name.
Organic Jojoba from Arizona
Chosen for its beautiful compatibility with skin and its connection to the desert landscapes that inspire us.
Organic Herbs from small local farms
Sourced from American growers and apothecaries we trust whenever possible.
Beef Suet from American Farm
Pasture-raised, grass-fed and grass-finished from a California ranch.
Botanical Oils thoughtfully sourced
Selected for their purpose within each individual formula.
A Little Recognition Along the Way
Beyond our own shelves
OCASA began with the skincare I formulate and make myself, but my vision for the apothecary has always been larger than what one person can create.
Today, our shelves also include products from herbalists, farmers, formulators, and small makers whose work I genuinely use and believe in.
Every outside product is personally considered before it earns a place here. I look at the ingredients, the maker behind it, how it's made, and whether it offers something worthwhile that I wouldn't simply recreate myself.
The goal isn't to carry everything.
It's to make finding thoughtful products a little easier.
One trusted place. Fewer compromises.
Give back to the desert
The landscapes that inspire OCASA deserve more than admiration.
That's why 1% of our tallow sales supports conservation work protecting desert habitat, wildlife, and the wild places of the American West.
The desert gives us inspiration every day.
Giving something back feels like the least we can do.
Transition Habitat Conservancy
Transition Habitat Conservancy is a grassroots, non-profit organization that focuses on critical land acquisitions and habitat stewardship in the West Mojave Desert.
Cascade Trails Mustang Sanctuary
Cascade Trails Mustang Sanctuary focuses on rescuing, rehabilitating, and protecting wild mustangs, giving them a safe place to live and recover.
Mojave Donkey League
Mojave Donkey League is working to bring donkeys back into our lives in a meaningful way. They create opportunities for companionship, connection, and adventure so more donkeys and formerly wild burros can live the lives they deserve.
The People Behind the Apothecary
Every OCASA skincare formula is created and handcrafted by me. The apothecary features carefully selected products from other makers whose work I genuinely admire.
Over the years, I've discovered incredible herbalists, farmers, tea blenders, and artisans whose work reflects the same values that guide OCASA: thoughtful ingredients, traditional craftsmanship, and respect for the land.
Rather than creating every product ourselves, we carefully curate a collection from makers we genuinely admire and use in our own homes.
When you shop our apothecary, you're not just supporting OCASA.
You're supporting a community of small businesses dedicated to making beautiful things with intention.
What I look for
Thoughtfully Sourced Ingredients
I look for brands that care deeply about where their ingredients come from, choosing organic botanicals, regenerative farms, and suppliers they know and trust.
Traditional Craftsmanship
Whether it's slowly infused herbs, small-batch production, or time-honored methods, I'm drawn to makers who value quality over speed.
Transparency
I want to know who's behind the product, how it's made, and why each ingredient is there. If a brand can't answer those questions, it doesn't belong here.
Products I'd Use Myself
Every product in the OCASA Apothecary is something I would confidently use in my own home or recommend to my family and friends.
Small Businesses First
Whenever possible, I choose to support fellow small businesses, herbalists, and family-owned makers who share a genuine passion for their craft.
